Around Port Royal
Over five decades ago, John Glen Sample developed Port Royal from approximately two square miles of marshland bounded on the west by the fantastic beaches of the Gulf of Mexico, on the east by Naples Bay, Gordon Pass to the south, and Aqualane Shores to the north.
Mr. Sample dredged the landscape into several peninsulas, and in 1956, began selling lots at a starting price of $11,200. Many of the original homes in Port Royal have been torn down and replaced with much larger and more elaborate homes on large estate lots. However, some original homes do still exist today, but are primarily sold for lot value.
Careful planning of this community has provided Port Royal with more than 8 miles of beautifully landscaped and heavily-treed boulevards and navigable channels. There is nothing within the boulevard or waterway systems to impede access to the Gulf of Mexico and the Ten Thousand Islands.
